SAN SEBASTIÁN. DV. Gipuzkoa has three green routes, denomination that the pedestrian tracings get for rural areas along which previously there was circulating some train of the lines of state property. These tracings are re-turned today into a walk place on foot, into bicycle or on horseback, thanks to the collaboration of the Statutory Delegation and the Foundation of the Railroad of Spain, which manages what there were iron rails and today there are pedestrian ways.
Three routes are well-known for the cyclists of mountain, walkers to pedals, on foot and for fans to cover these ways with delight. One of them is that of Arditurri, which joins the bay pasaitarra with the ancient Roman mines located in the hillocks oiartzuarras, along 11,5 km. Other one is that of the urola, from Azkoitia to Legazpi, of 21 km, covering part of the basin of the urola, Azkarate, Irumugarri and Irukurutzeta. Thirteen bridges and 19 tunnels, without lighting, do of the trip a small adventure in which it is easy to imagine when and in what conditions this trip was crossing the train. The third one is the most popular: that of the Plazaola, between Andoain and the Navarrese locality of Lekunberri, of 40 km of placid trip and biomole protected along with the river Leizarán.
But these three terrestrial routes can be more according to the plan of the department of Environment, that for the year 2010 he wants to establish a mesh that connects all the natural ways and «to turn the whole peninsular coast into a footpath that could be covered without using motorized means». The due map of green routes they would suppose 537 itineraries and neither more nor less than 38.491 km. Today, there exists a whole of 1.359 km of natural ways and tries to come to the 15.000, using the routes of coast and ways along with the rivers and state lakes. One of the showiest plans is of joining for a way recorrible in bicycle the delta of the Ebro with Finisterre.
At present 7.000 are the kilometers of way without irons, where they have eliminated the rusty rails and the ties eaten away in all the peninsular geography. The Foundation of the Railroad and the department of Environment, together with Renfe, Adif - entity that manages the services tranviarios of Spain - and FEVE, in addition to the autonomic governments and the delegations, they take part actively in this plan. The cycle, environmental and collective groups of citizens worried by the care of the nature have applauded the initiative.
Nobody speaks about budgets, but the cost will be large. It is necessary to pave the way, to arrange the bridges, to illuminate the longest tunnels, to repair the alleys, to adapt the viaducts and, even, to arrange new footbridges always respectful with the environment.
Till now, from 1993, 70 million euros have been invested, and 64 green routes have been conditioned along 1.550 kilometers, of which, 200 are still in works or in tender. The project has received several international awards, between them of the UNO in 2000, European 2004, Conbici 2005 and Adena in 2006.
Gipuzkoa plans more
The Statutory Delegation joined this gigantic environmental project in addition to creating for his account other bidegorris and natural pedestrian walks that for almost two decades exist the length and breadth of the territory. The list of bidegorris, pedestrian walks and progress of the existing ones is to do the mouth she waters down to the lovers of the trips in bicycle or on foot enjoying a green and natural environment. A third group of bidegorris and natural walks would be the one that the Endarlatsa tracings form, from Irun to the muga with Navarre, subordinated to the works of enlargement of the highway, which will finish at the end of 2008 or at the beginning of 2009; the same that that of Segura to Zegama (Kortaberria) finished by the end of this year; Ikaztegieta-Ordizia, without date and Villabona-Zizurkil-Asteasu, for August or September of the same year.
Seven new projects in están in study and for lack of that the works they bid.
