The project of execution of the bidegorri between Ibaeta and the walk Errondo is already in the Town hall and, especially, a political agreement exists already with the Department of Transports of the Basque Government to transfer the municipality the use of the ancient railroad tunnel of Morlans, which will take shape of next weeks in the signature of an agreement for such an end. The forecast is that the works begin this summer and that they last 8 months.

The palace things go slowly, especially in Morlans (it would be necessary to say). In view of the time that is costing, the transformation of the quarter is the childbearing of the mounts. The construction of the railroad south variant accumulated debts of several years and the town-planning reordering turned out to be affected by this delay and by the complications inherent in the construction of half a thousand of housings of official protection. Nowadays the new Euskotren line is a reality and the urban development of the future quarter is already awarded. The morello cherry was missing to complete the cake and this one is going to come, probably, before the elections of May 27.

From the year 2000 there exists in the Town hall the idea of making use of the ancient railroad Morlans tunnel to do a rail bike between Amara and Ibaeta. It is not a caprice. The current alternative is that the cyclists give the whole return for the city, included walk of the Conch, to join relatively next two areas.

Clauses asumibles

Elorza entrusted two years ago a basic study to make this project real. The current persons in charge of Transports of the Basque Government demanded the formalization of an agreement to make clear the clauses and the commitments of every institution at the time of transferring the tracing. The political agreement between Odón Elorza and the adviser Nuria López de Guereñu, certified in a meeting celebrated in Lakua last 5th, is already captured in an agreement draft. Only it is missing that the juridical services of both institutions give the approval and the document is approved and be signed between both parts, what might come in the next weeks as told the mayor.

The agreement establishes that Euskotren «transfers in precarious the use of the tunnel» to the Town hall. All the costs of conditioning and of maintenance, as well as the responsibilities before any accident or incident in the tunnel will be assumed by the Town hall. The mayor thought that the conditions that the Commission of Transports has wanted to gather in the agreement are «reasonable and asumibles» for the municipality, and «good disposition» always underlined it for the agreement on the part of López de Guereñu.

Almost two kilometers

The new bidegorri will have almost two kilometers long between the walk of Errondo - at a height of the parish of the Sacred Family - and his connection with the avenue of Toulouse, in Errotaburu. His construction will allow to lubricate the cycle network of the city making real direct trips - till now unthinkable - between, for example, Añorga and will Love, Loiola and the campus of the UPV or the Ancient one and Banks of Loiola.

From the gas Factory, the bidegorri will go along approximately 400 meters along the current Morlans - in three years it will do it for a new tracing that will show for the emergent quarter - up to embocar in the railroad tunnel located under the road of circulation Amara-Ibaeta.

This ancient railroad line is 840 meters long in a practically flat trip. The works of conditioning will demand to eliminate the moisture of the vault and the walls of the tunnel, asfaltar the road surface, to place the pertinent lighting and to arrange a system of videovigilancia that will be controlled by the Municipal Guard, as added Elorza. At the entry and exit of the tunnel there will be placed doors that will block the way during the night, in a flextime as the stations, to avoid irregular establishments in the route. The tunnel will not be able to be used by the pedestrians, it will only allow the bicycles circulation.

The width of this tracing-3,5 meters - will be major than the bidegorris at present existing in the city. To the exit of the tunnel, the rail will cover approximately 430 opencast meters up to the current station of the Mole of Lugaritz - at a height of the old people's home - and another 290 meters up to reaching the bidegorri of the avenue of Toulouse, in Errotaburu. The mayor emphasized that the transformation of an ancient urban railroad tunnel in a cycle trip will be «one of the more singular projects of mobility of Europe», what pushes him to make a pilgrimage assiduously to Madrid in search of economic support - in the departments of Environment and Transports, fundamentally - to extract forward the work.

Formalized the agreement for the transfer of the ancient railroad tracing, the works will be extracted to tender and they will be awarded «at the beginning of the summer», as made sure the mayor. The project will cost about 1,2 million euros and will be executed in approximately 8 months, for what will be in functioning in the spring 2008. «The students of the campus of the UPV, come from Zumaia or from Amara, they will put to come to his classes in bike thanks to this project», the first town councilor outlined satisfied.

Works: Elimination of the moisture of the tunnel, asphalting of the road surface, system of illumination and installation of a system of videovigilancia. The tunnel will close in the night.
