In the same way that there exists an European network of highways and freeways for the displacement of cars and other vehicles to engine, from the next year there will be a network of sure and agreeable routes for the displacements in bicycle. The irundarras lover of this way of transport are of congratulations, since they will be able to cross cities of all the European countries to blow of pedal thanks to the Network I Eurostay awake, whose tracing includes Irun.
The route Atlantic Coast, which joins France, Spain and Portugal, would enter the State Irun, and, connecting with the Milky Way would happen for Pamplona, Bridge Reina, Estella, Logronio, Burgos and Frómista. It would leave here the Way to continue the Channel of Castile up to Medina of Rioseco. In Benavente it would reach the Route of the Silver, with which it would come to Zamora, Salamanca, Hervás, Plasencia, Caceres and Merida. Then they come Oil container and, already in Andalusia, Cove, Nerva, Stained Rio and Ayamonte, on the border with Portugal.
The proposed tracing tries to make use to the maximum of ancient railroad lines, cattle routes, channels and cultural itineraries; and, in general, the tracks have few differences and they are in most cases removed from routes of car circulation to avoid risks.
Active Bidasoa is the manager of coordinating the development of the project as for the city. Irun will be part of a rail bike that impelled by the European Federation of Cyclists with support of the European Commission, will consist of twelve routes and a whole of 60.000 kilometers, of which 20.000 are already in functioning.
The stretch will have to expire with a few design criteria so that Euroveil could be incorporated into the Network.
Between other characteristics, it will have to have a slope lower than 6 % (except short stretches), width sufficient for two cyclists, average motorized traffic lower than 1000 vehicles / day or nonexistent, and paving in 80 % of his trip. Also, the route must remain opened the whole year, offer provisioning every 30 km, accommodation every 50 km and public transport that accepts bicycles every 150 kilometers.
The project Euroveil chases two principal targets. On the one hand, to stimulate the use of the bicycle as way of transport and, for other, to promote the most sustainable and respectful tourism with the environment: the tourism in bicycle or touring by bicycle.
