SAN SEBASTIÁN. DV. The Town hall is going to update his Plan of Bidegorris approved in the year 2001 with a new document that, with the horizon of 2011, foresees to add 28 more kilometers to the current network and to spend a whole for 5,7 million euros in a score of different performances.

The document that has been prepared from the Mobility direction tries to use the experience of the framework of rails bike or the ratios of use of the different stretches, what it serves to him to do a bet for the called networks of quarter, to which it qualifies not only of useful in the field of internal communication but also like a culture factor for the consolidation of the urban bicycle.

«The principal bicycles network facilitates the connections of covered way and of access to the big equipments, parks or spaces of free time. The quarters network serves of nourishing to this principal network and, although his transit levels will be more limited, they are fundamental for this transport way».

And the fact is that the pretension of this new Plan is that the streets of the quarter are used by internal trips to the school, to the institute or to the park, a use of proximity that serves so that the new generations of future users of the bicycle learn the practice of the mobility that it provides to them, «from a few bases different from those who it learned his ancestors when urban facility did not exist for his use».

With the rolled traffic

From the Mobility direction it is remembered in this report that, since the first bidegorris should enable, there is perceptible the increase of the use of the bicycle. It is warned, nevertheless, that most of the new cyclists only go along along reserved routes and also along sidewalks and spaces of pedestrian use, «what creates insecurity to the pedestrians and users of the spaces of stay». Performance axes

The new plan is sustained in seven performance axes. The first one is the need to reduce the motorized mobility, eternal municipal aspiration, especially across the road hierarchical structuring, the extension of areas with pedestrian priority and of the so called areas 30, those in which the cars cannot circulate beyond this maximum speed.

The connection between the principal network of itineraries of the high quarters and the systems of vertical mobility is an important innovation with regard to the previous Plan approved in 2001, since escalators and elevators can suppose an authentic revolution in the communications in the city in opinion of the technical staff.

One emphasizes also that it is necessary to facilitate the use of the bike for activities like the sport, the free time or the leisure time activities and in this sense there is indicated the importance of the establishment of cycle connections with the nearby municipalities, the achievement of homogeneous treatments that should allow an identification of the cycle routes and the need to facilitate that also the tourists could gain access to this way of communication or of free time.

It is needed also, on having spoken about period, which those rails bike that should link to networks of other institutions will have to postpone 2010 or 2011 in the performances calendar, since his putting in functioning is more complex.

Since it was of foreseeing, there appears also the extension of the cycle infrastructures to the new urban developments, especially the most powerful, case of Banks of Loiola or of Auditz Akular, and reminds to him that the bidegorris must enable simultaneously that the rest of the urban development, like measurement, also, to promote that the bicycle appears like an effective alternative for the interior mobility of the barium and for the access to the centers of attraction of the city.

To take to door this transport way is another target that is prepared by the increase of the network and by his conversion in an authentic mesh of comfortable itineraries. Also special emphasis is done in the need that all the parks and green spaces of the city are accessible to come in bicycle.

The new Plan must serve also to integrate the cycle infrastructure in all the emblematic performances of the city and indicates to him that this vehícul must end up by being a symbol of urban quality.

But the changes also have to do with the progress of the current network that, in opinion of the editors of the report, experiences some strangulations that affect in the cycle safety and in that of other users and that, also, reduce serviceability. This way, there are indicated deficient arrangements of the cycle step in intersections or bad treatment in stretches that are of coexistence with the pedestrians, case of the axis of the street Getaria or of the gardens of Alderdi Eder.

It is considered also that it would be adapted that some rails bike that was foreseen that they will be part of the principal network happen to have quarter functions and one emphasizes the need that an important signaling exists.

All this readjustment takes shape of new tracings to which a temporary priority has been assigned to them, whenever the intention of which the quarters are the principal protagonists of the whole reorganization of the politics of bidegorris of the Town hall.


  1. Axis Loiola-Reyes Católicos-Easo: It leads to the commercial spaces of the pedestrian axis, to the services of the street Urdaneta and to the station of the Mole.
  2. Concha-San Martín-Río: It will have two unidirectional itineraries One of them would cross the avenue of the Freedom, Fuenterrabía and San Marcial and the second one Devastate you and square of Saragossa.
  3. Alley of Atocha: This pedestrian tunnel would facilitate the connection of the Center with the network of Egia or Intxaurrondo. The cycle transit subordinates itself to the pedestrian priority and his use would be regulated in moments of big demand.

  7. Mundaiz-Duque of Bequests: Across Cristina Enea.
