Bike Summit winds up a great Bike Month

On Wednesday, May 29, 70 cyclists from the Burlington area came together at Bike Summit 2002, sponsored by the BBC and DPW. The group shared ideas on ways to improve cycling in our city, and established some priorities for BBC activities for the coming year. We also had a wonderful feast thanks to the generosity of area restaurants and food services. It was the culminating event of Bike Month (May), which also included the unveiling of the new map (see below) and the give-away of safety strobe flashing lights to help children cycle safer at Kid's Day (May 18). There will be more about the results of the Bike Summit posted in the next few days.

The Bike Council Unveils New Area Cycling Map

Culminating a two-year project, the Bike Council unveiled its new Burlington area cycling map on Friday, May 10. Designer David Lustgarten (on right in white shirt), a year-round cycle commuter, spearheaded the project that also included work by Champlain College student intern Zach Henderson. Bike Council Chair Gus Buchanan (pink shirt, groovy tie) led the ceremonies on the bike path in Burlington.
